MABUS

"Swollen" (Self-produced)

Reviewed by R. Scott Bolton

Gainesville, Florida's Mabus is lean, mean rock'n'roll that reaches out and grabs you by the throat. Mabus has a tight, powerful sound that combines the best of melodic metal with the edge of hardcore. It's a unique sound that brings to mind the latest bands of the Roadrunner Record label (i.e., Slipknot, etc.) but isn't quite as harsh. "Swollen" boasts excellent production with the balance of music and vocals near perfection.

According to the band, their music is "a discussion in the evolution of religion, history and politics relating to the human species and its potential downfall." The band's name, in fact, is Nostradamus' reference to the end of humanity as we know it.

MABUS: C.R. Heist, vocals; Ray Powell, guitars; Jeremy Wolfe, bass; Jeremy Rimer, drums.
