LOCURA
"Emotional Distress" (Self-produced)
Reviewed by R. Scott Bolton
Musicians this young shouldn't be this angry. But Locura rocks with a sharp edge that could maneuver them to the forefront of the local, and, eventually perhaps, national scene.
I really didn't think that Locura's intensity - which is a combination of Pantera and Sepultura - could be caught on CD, even with a live performance. I was wrong. Sure, "Emotional Distress" shows its flaws as a non-studio recording but it also shines in its dead-on rendering of Locura's jaw-dropping live sound. There are nine songs on this demo CD and any one of them will knock you flat on your ass with its sheer power and unbridled rage.
Locura: Joe Bowles, guitar; Nik Gonzalez, bass/vocals; Ian Mally, vocals/guitar; Larry Reynolds, drums.
