LEATHER SYNN

"Leather Synn" EP (Non Nobis/Metal Soldiers; 2013)

Reviewed by R. Scott Bolton

If you love old school metal, you gotta love Leather Synn. You know what you're going to get from these guys just by looking at their photo on the back cover: Lots of leather and studs, long hair and tattoos. Yep, looks like a metal band!

And they sound like a metal band, too. Buoyed by chunky riffs and at least a couple of lead solos per song, Leather Synn doles out the classic metal in a Judas Priest/Grim Reaper type of vein, never sliding too far into the realm of cheesy although, with song titles like "Committed to Metal" and "Synn is Ynn," they sometimes come close. With their driving rhythms, testosterone-loaded vocals and driving rhythms, they instead lay down four tracks of efficient classic heavy metal ... and that's sometimes too hard to find these days.

The only bad thing about Leather Synn's EP is that it's only four tracks long. I wanted to hear more from the band and I hope to do that very soon.

Leather Synn: Ze Rockhard - guitar; Manimal Faria - bass; Xico Steele - vocals; Hugo Rattlesnake - guitar; Victor Silver - drums.

So-so. You've heard better.

Pretty bad. Might make a nice coaster.

Self explanatory. Just the sight of the cover makes you wanna hurl.
