LAST GREAT HOPE

"Creatures of Beauty" (Handout Records; 2004)

Reviewed by R. Scott Bolton

"Creatures of Beauty" is a solid punk rock record that never caters to the spongerock style of trying to get radio hits and instead delivers music that feels honest and real. And that's what punk rock is supposed to be all about.

More complex than the simplest punk and boasting an edge that's never too harsh but never pop rock soft, the tracks on "Creatures of Beauty" are always energetic and engrossing. And, hey, the band's not afraid of guitar solos, either, which appear in nearly every song.

Last Great Hope: Doug - vocals, guitar; Dave - guitar; Walt - drums; Joe - bass.
