LANFEAR
"Art Effect" (Nightmare Records; 2005)

If there were any way to simply describe Lanfear's "Art Effect" it would be "big." Everything about this band is larger than life, from their songwriting to their production to their artwork. Even their website: usually I don't even comment on a band's website, but Lanfear's is awesome, especially its intro.
Although the band is obviously telling a story which I cannot grasp from just a few listens, I still had a hell of a time trying to figure it out. While Lanfear is obviously incredibly talented, both as musicians and as songwriters, the CD is bloated and overproduced. That overproduction makes it hard to concentrate on the CD's inherent message.
Still, "Art Effect" is an enjoyable CD from beginning to end and, although I can't give it the fullest rating here, I can recommend it unflinchingly.
