KINGDOM OF GIANTS

"Bleeding Star" (Sharptone; 2024)

Reviewed by R. Scott Bolton

"Bleeding Star" plays like a metalcore version of a science fiction novel, with hints of industrial metal and space rock sprinkled in. For the most part, however, It's brutally crushing guitars, devastating blast beats, and vocals that could peel paint (some of the time). There's so much pain, angst and anger on this EP, it can't help but slip out and infect the listener, so have your personal choice of Soma at the ready.

There's not a lot of variety between most of the tracks, although the alternating rough and smooth vocals—which are perfectly placed in each song—will keep you guessing. Not that that really matters. The six tracks on "Bleeding Star" were solid enough to hold my interest throughout. I know there's a lot of readers out there who don't like metalcore in any form but I'd still recommend giving "Bleeding Star" a try.
