INFERION

"This Will Decay" (Horror Pain Gore Death; 2014)

Reviewed by Jeff Rogers

Inferion are black and death metal, sometimes referred to as "blackened death metal." They hail from Florida, the "Sunshine State," but there is no 'sunshine' emitting from this band, no, no. This trio of skull-smashers take no prisoners on this, their eighth disc of death. Most of the time black metal is pretty predictable in its sound approach. Death metal can vary depending on who is growling but the music is what always kicks my face from left to right. Inferion's "This Will Decay" is one heavy Chevy. The guitar has the bite of a vicious gator and the follow-up of hungry piranhas. I found myself head-banging but also listening to the ever present incredible guitar work.

"This Will Decay" is fourteen tracks of brain-crushing metal. A few of the tracks have dirty solos, and I was astoundingly impressed. The beginning riff usually sets the pace and the bass and drums begin to dig a Grand Canyon groove throughout each track.

This is my first venture into Inferion territory and, since I'm here, I'll have to check out more of their musically administered brutality.

Inferion: Carlos Delgado Reyes, Frank Gross and Nick Reyes (who continues to write music while serving in the US ARMY).
