ILLDISPOSED

"In Chambers of Sonic Disgust" (Massacre Records; 2024)

Reviewed by R. Scott Bolton

Illdisposed has been around since the early 90s, so it's a little surprising that we've never reviewed the band in all those years. Of course, there's a lot we haven't reviewed here—I mean, we can't review everything—but you get my point.

In Chambers of Sonic Disgust is a rousing collection of death metal tracks that stand apart from other releases in the genre due to the band's  combination of melody and heavy groove sound (especially on tracks such as "Start Living Again"). The vocals are pure death metal growls, full of anger and aggression, while the music is crushingly heavy but also unusually accessible. In other words, you don't have to be a death metal fan to appreciate what Illdisposed have done here while, at the same time, if you are a death metal fan, you'll find plenty to your liking as well.

Stand out tracks include "I Suffer" with Sandie The Lilith providing additional vocals and "I Walk Among the Living" which fades in already going full blast and continues throughout its three-and-a-half minute run time.
