ICON FOR HIRE

"Scripted" (Tooth & Nail Records; 2011)

Reviewed by Jeff Rogers

Fans of Skillet, Fireflight, Flyleaf and Red will find a new band to download with Icon for Hire.

Icon for Hire is labeled as Christian pop punk and electronic rock. There are plenty of buzzing guitars and strong vocals and each song has a great groove. They started with an EP in 2008 and 2009 with another EP and now they have blossomed that into a full length disc. I'm a fan of both types of music and this is one disc that rocks while providing some great dance music.

Each song has a positive message and it's wrapped around a strong beat with some funky electronics that gives way to some tough guitar. Take the above mentioned bands and roll them all together -- Icon for Hire isn't a hybrid but a collective sound. You can also hear some Superchick on a few cuts. Female fronted bands give music a more melodic sound and when you hear Ariel harmonize with her own voice you can tell she has power and grace.

Icon for Hire: Ariel - vocals; Shawn Jump - guitar; Adam Kronshagen - drums; Josh Kincheloe - bass.
