ICE VINLAND
"Asgard Steel" (Pure Steel Records; 2019)
Reviewed by Snidermann
Is stadium rock dead? Rock'n'roll music that is larger than life? Dual guitars, bass, drums and a keyboard mixed in is? In my opinion, that genre of rock is not dead and a Canadian band called Ice Vinland is proof of that.
A line from their bio states that this music is in "the sprit of the old Conan films ... mixed with Nordic mythology." That's about as perfect a description there is to this music. The louder I played it, the more I liked it.
This band is tight, loud, in your face with no apologies, just high quality rock'n'roll and a staggering 56+ minute release that will leave you breathless. I can just imagine this band playing to 50,000 people at Wembley Stadium or the Rose Bowl.
The name of the recording is "Asgard Steel" and it is their fourth release. Ice Vinland is a six member group with twin guitars (not a lead and rhythm guitar--both guitarists are listed as lead guitar ... and they also sing).
Ice Vinland: Damian Leif Thorson - vocal; Richie Blacksmith - guitar; Loïss Darkstorm - guitar; Yvin Baldrick - bass; Dan "the Red" - drum; Markus Keysteinn - keyboard/vocals
To witness that for yourself, all you have to do is go to https://www.reverbnation.com/icevinland and play the track super loud and I think you will agree.
