THE HURT PROCESS
"Drive By Monologue" (Victory; 2004)

I had trouble trying to pinpoint what The Hurt Process and "Drive By Monologue" was all about and - in my exploration of why that was, I found myself really liking the band and this CD.
At first, I thought the vocals were too wimpy and just like all the other sponge rock bands out there. However, after a few cuts, I discovered that the vocals ran the gamut from melodic to heavy and just about everything else in between. Yeah, I liked the heavier stuff better than the lighter stuff, but - for the most part - it was all good. The band's interesting mixture of heavy metal and punk rock style generates a very unique sound.
"Drive By Monologue" is a very good recording. If it had been more consistent (read "heavier") all the way through, I would have enjoyed it even more.
On another note, the artwork here is simple, stunning and provocative and that accounts for something.
The Hurt Process: Darren Toms - Drums; Tom Diamond - Guitar; Alan Burent Smith - Guitar; Mark Andrews - Vocals; Dan Lawerence - Vocals; Duncan Mgilvary - Bass.
