HUMAN

"Out of the Dust" (Organic; 1998)

Reviewed by Jeff Rogers

Human is a Christian alternative band that is produced by Billy Smiley, who is a major producer and talent in Whiteheart, another Christian band that emerged in the 80s, 90s and 00s.

If you follow Christian music you know that some bands only put out one album and either broke up and formed other groups or just let their debut album stand alone. Human is one of those bands. The music is very well done; the guitar is edgy and melodic. The vocals are comforting and, although the drums sound like Nirvana at times, it all meshes together.

The best tracks are “Read Your Mind,” “I Can’t Live,” *“Bullet To Blue Sky,” and “Lemonade.”

Note: Track 5 is titled “Hand Me Down” but it clocks in at 11:12. That's because a hidden track, a cover of “Bullet To Blue Sky” by U2 from “The Joshua Tree,” appears in the last half of this track. Stay tuned for it.

Human: Randy Kinnett – lead vocals; Carl Sapp – rhythm and lead guitars, acoustic guitar; Vic “Vixter” Sapp – bass; Dean Martin Vanderwoude – rhythm and acoustic guitars, vocals; Erick “Turtle” Garcia – drums.

Rating Guide:

A classic. This record will kick your ass.

Killer. Not a classic but it will rock your world.

So-so. You've heard better.

Pretty bad. Might make a nice coaster.

Self explanatory. Just the sight of the cover makes you wanna hurl.
