HOTWIRE

"The Routine" (RCA; 2003)

Reviewed by Snidermann

Hotwire is a band that has two distinct sides: The first is a band that rocks with an explosive enthusiasm that is contagious and instantly easy to listen to; the second is the flip side - when Hotwire slows it down the music grinds to a near standstill. When the tempo slows down, the vocals and lyrics become dull and the the music lethargic. I can't even believe it's the same band!

When they're fast and upbeat, Hotwire is a great band. When they slow it down, it feels almost catatonic.

Hotwire: Rus Martin - vocals; Brian Borg - drums; Chris Strauser - bass; Gabe Garcia - guitar.
