The best thing about punk music, IMO, is its uplifting, energetic quality and Home Grown has that in spades.
Heavy, chord-based pop punk loaded with a shitload of attitude and style. Just about everything a punk band should be. "Kings of Pop" is fun and easy to listen to, easy to relate to and just pure and simply fucking good. The songs are about the usual things: everyday life, love, heartbreak, and the music is always played hard and fast.
There's so much pop punk out there that it takes really good pop punk to stand out. Home Grown does just that.
I can only imagine what "Kings of Pop" would sound like live. The studio version has so much power, it seems that it would only get better in a live setting. Home Grown follows no other - they kick ass in a pure punk style.

"Act Your Age" (Outpost Recordings; 1998)
Reviewed by R. Scott Bolton
Peppy, poppy punk from a quartet who have a penchant for speedy three-chord songs and lyrics that range from the deep ("What if everything you had, you had to give back; Would you be the same?; I don't think you would; There's so many things that you don't appreciate" - "Nowhere Slow") to the humorous: ("I'm sick of playing all your stupid little games; You're 17 and blonde and screwed up in the brain; conceited, immature, confused and naive; You're pretty, pretty dumb and caught up in the scene" - "Wow, She Dumb")
Does Home Grown break any new ground? Not really. Does it matter? Not really. Their charisma and enthusiasm are infectious and so are the melodic, guitar-driven songs they write and perform.
HOME GROWN is: Ian Cone, guitars, vocals; Bob Herco, drums; Adam Lohrbach, vocals, bass guitar; John E. Trash, vocals, guitar.
