THE HISTRIONIKS

"About This Girl" (CatErratic Records; 2006)

Reviewed by R. Scott Bolton

"About This Girl" has more of a new wave sound than a hard rock sound with its playful guitars, bouncy rhythms and Cat Levy's Susanna Hoffs-ish vocals. Most of the songs are energetic and poppy although some of the slower songs become downright haunting.

The Histrioniks are an interesting group (actually, a duo) whose unique sound will certainly find its audience. Unfortunately, I don't believe its audience is here, at Rough Edge, where most readers are looking for Lita Ford rather than Susanna Hoffs and Arch Enemy rather than the Waitresses.

The Histrioniks: Cat Levy - vocals; Larry Levy - rhythm guitar, lead guitar, drums, percussion and backing vocals. Also performing are Dave Powers - bass guitar; Marty Canelli - keyboards; Joe Rinaolo - lead guitar, rhythm guitar, backing vocals.
