HERE'S TO

"Letters to Hill Valley" (Casanova Records; 2010)

Reviewed by R. Scott Bolton

Despite the press release and the band's website, Here's To's "Letters to Hill Valley" sounds like an emo album to me. And, to make things worse, it sounds like all the other emo albums out there. There's not much, if anything, fresh or new on it. And the CD's production value doesn't help. Sounds are lost in the mix, the audio is often flat and the entire EP is kind of dull.

All that being said, the band does display some obvious talent here and perhaps is just trying to find its footing. So, unless you're a huge fan of the emo genre, wait until the confusingly named Here's To's next album comes out. I have a hunch it will be a little stronger than "Letters to Hill Valley."
