GODDESS OF DESIRE

"Symbol of Triumph" (Metal Blade Records)

Reviewed by R. Scott Bolton

Goddess of Desire really love heavy metal. Just one listen to "Symbol of Triumph" and you can tell. Lots of loud guitars, pounding drums, screaming vocals. Cries of "Live For Metal" and "Metal Forever."

And they look the part, too: Plenty of long hair and black leather, a couple of big-bosomed babes in skimpy costumes (see cover, above).

But sometimes, loving heavy metal and looking the part just aren't enough. Goddess of Desire deliver plenty of loud rock music, but none of it really stands out. It's a poor man's mix of Manowar and Motorhead. The noises are all there, they just don't add up to much. And the lyrics are light-weight and contrived.

Don't get us wrong - Goddess of Love is certainly listenable. There's a certain cheesy pleasure to be had here. It's like GWAR without all the horror movie makeup. Raunchy, raw and over-the-top.

So-so. You've heard better.

Pretty bad. Might make a nice coaster.

Self explanatory. Just the sight of the cover makes you wanna hurl.
