THE FUTUREHEADS

"This is Not the World" (Nul Records; 2008)

Reviewed by Jeff Rogers

Post-punk revival is exactly what you would call The Futureheads. These guys are from Sunderland, England. Their name comes from The Flaming Lips CD titled "Hit To Death In The Future Head." This is their third disc and a two year difference separates each one so look for a new one soon. They started spitting out discs in 2004. Track number five is where the name of this disc comes from.

If you like the post-punk crowd that consists mostly of bands such as The Strokes, The Killers and Franz Ferdinand, then you'll really like The Futureheads. I can dig them because they have that punk sound but they also incorporate some New Wave music (Devo, XTC, and Wire) into the mix and that gives it a unique vibe.

It’s a safe listen and its only 39:35 long. The guitar is tough in some parts and quirky in others. The lyrics are goofy sounding and when they get into a groove be ready to dance along, its infectious stuff.

The Futureheads: Ross Millard, Dave Hyde, Barry Hyde, David "Jaff" Craig.
