FREYA
"Lift the Curse" (Victory; 2007)

I reviewed Freya's "As the Last Light Drains" a few years ago and what I liked from that CD is only amplified her on "Lift the Curse." Freya has simply gotten better with age.
"Lift the Curse" is tight, well-shaped well-performed heavy metal. This musical explosion jumped immediately to my A-list rotation, if for no other reason than it just rocks like nobody's business.
With nary a heartbeat between tunes, this recording delivers a high energy eruption that had my heart racing and my blood pumping. This is quality heavy music and, like a fine whiskey, Freya just gets better with age while packing at least the same amount of punch.

"As the Last Light Drains" (Victory; 2003)

Sometimes, there's a fine line between a good band and a band that's not so good. There is no such line with Freya, a band that captures your attention and imagination from the first moment the laser hits the CD.
Made up of former members of Earth Crisis, Freya is - perhaps not surprisingly - a solid band with a unique sound and a rare talent for writing unusual songs. If you're looking for stark originality, then Freya has it in spades.
The cover art - a silhouette of a man running through a storm drain - is a killer preamble for what is to come.
"As The Last Light Drains" is full of dark images and killer metal and, in my book, that is a winning combination. Freya varies the vocal style a lot during the course of the CD and that keep it interesting for the listener. Freya is an excellent band that likes to mix it up musically, I strongly recommend it.
Freya: Karl Buechner - vocals; Darian Lizotte - guitar and vocals; Corey Koniz - drums; Erick Edwards - guitar; Bulldog - bass.

So-so. You've heard better.
Pretty bad. Might make a nice coaster.
Self explanatory. Just the sight of the cover makes you wanna hurl.
