FREEDOM HAWK

"Holding On" (Small Stone Records; 2011)

Reviewed by R. Scott Bolton

On "Holding On," Freedom Hawk does the stoner sound right. They take the very fact that all stoner rock is kinda/sorta built on Tony Iommi's fuzz guitar sound of the early Black Sabbath days and enhance it with a vocalist who sounds a little like Ozzy Osbourne. It's an combined effort that works, both for fans of the aforementioned Black Sabbath as well as for fans of the modern stoner genre - bands like Fu Manchu.

A great CD from the first track to the last, "Holding On" is highly recommended.
