FOR TODAY
"Fight the Silence" (Razor & Tie; 2014)
Reviewed by R. Scott Bolton
For Today are Christian metalcore from Sioux
City, Iowa. Their message gets mixed with the music and, even though I'm a fan
of the message, the screaming gets in the way for me. I know they are trying to
reach those who dig metalcore but when the clean singing comes in I'm more apt
to lean in and listen. They have a lot of 'lyric' videos because, well, that's
about the only way you can understand what's being growled.
The music is heavy as metalcore should be. The guitar has more depth than I've
heard in a while -- acoustics and some solos are peppered in this offering.
Ryan, who plays lead guitar, can sing, but I know metalcore has a reputation to
uphold and they even have a guest vocalists such as Matty Mullins from Memphis
May Fire, another metalcore band from Dallas, Texas.
This is their fifth disc and they show no signs of slowing down or letting up so
keep killing it guys!
For Today: Mattie Montgomery - lead vocals; Ryan Leitru - lead guitar, clean
vocals; Sam Penner - rhythm guitar; Brandon Leitru - bass guitar; David Puckett
- drums, percussion. Additional Personnel: Matty Mullins (Memphis May Fire) -
guest vocals on "Break the Cycle".
