FLAT BLACK
"Dark Side of the Brain" (Fearless
Records; 2025)
Reviewed by Snidermann
To me, metal music is a vibe. A feeling. An emotion. Do you understand all the words? Hell, no. Do you look up the lyrics on the net? Not all the time. However, what you do is feel the energy, the ambiance, the sheer energy of what the artist is portraying. That is metal.
Flat Black was formed by former Five Finger Death Punch guitarist Jason Hook and, wow, does he bring his unique talent to this extremely cool band. The vocals took a minute to get used to but, after a few spins, I figured out what the lads were trying to say. The songwriting is very well done, full of dark and twisted images that any metal fan would find appealing.
The musical aspect of the band is outstanding, with the driving force that is both appealing and compelling. Flat Black is one talented band and I cant wait to see where their music takes me.
