ERRONAUT

"The Space Inbetween" (London Doom Collective; 2024)

Reviewed by Snidermann

With their debut album, "The Space Inbetween," Erronaut deliver an epic listening experience that combines elements of sci-fi, doom, stoner and mind-expanding atmosphere. Featuring ten tracks that run from 1:13 to 8:28, this band's pummeling fuzz guitars, Godzilla rhythms and epic soundscapes grabbed my attention immediately (with the eerie, spoken word intro "5.68º N 98.54º E") and then tightened their grip with the following track, "Way Down Below" and beyond.

As I've said in other recent reviews, the doom/stoner genre is really catching my attention these days, but I'll be the first to admit that much of it sounds all the same. Erronaut changes that up a bit with their personal, introspective lyrics, their towering atmospheric sounds and their crushing fuzz sound. Like so much other music in this genre, "The Space Inbetween" is best listened to via headphones and total concentration.
