As you can see from my earlier review of Drist's music, I was blown away by their ability to play it all and to play it all well. Sadly, I am not as impressed with their latest release, "Bitter Halo."
The music on "Bitter Halo" is slower and more melodic than I remember the previous Drist CD being. The band's songwriting and interpretation of life remains refreshing and still gives their music an added edge. But some of the songs herein are a tad too slow and repetitive. What's good is very good. When Drist decides to liven it up, their killer licks and thundering vocals really work. Unfortunately, there's not enough of that energy on "Bitter Halo."
Don't get me wrong - I'm far from writing off Drist. There's something about this band's combined talent that still strikes my soul. I just wish they would strike it a little harder and with a little more speed.

"Sterile" (Self-produced Demo)

After listening to "Sterile" just once, I can't believe Drist is not signed by a record company. The musical range of this six song self-produced release is simply astounding. The range of intense emotion herein ranges from the soft and mellow to blistering metal and everything else in between. I was totally captivated by this band from the beginning. Record companies stand up and take notice, Drist is awesome!
Drist is Brian da Motta guitar; Chris Koening drums; Dave Pearl bass and Tyson Yen vocals.
