DOUBLE VISION

"Double Vision" (Frontiers Music Srl; 2025)

Reviewed by R. Scott Bolton

Double Vision is a band probably best known (so far) as a Foreigner cover band, and for their spot-on covers of classic Foreigner tunes. This self-titled debut takes them on another journey, their first all-original full-length album.

The band has openly praised Foreigner and admit that "Double Vision" "still contain(s) a hat tip (or more)" to Foreigner. And the album does. It's got a lot of those radio-friendly hard rock hits (such as "Prisoner of Illusion," "Youphoria," " and "Church of the Open Mind;" slower, balladly tunes ("The Man You Make Me," "Look Out for Me," "A Stranger's Face"); even saxophone on numbers like "Once Before." Hell, there's even a little honky tonk on the track "The Day and Age." And all of the tunes are rock solid, with impressive musicianship, bold vocals and song songwriting and production.

But the key here is that Double Vision, while paying tribute to Foreigner under another guise, don't just carbon copy Foreigner here. The songs are their own, they feel fresh and original, and—even though they may match the Foreigner style—this is a Double Vision album, from start to finish.

It's always good to hear a strong rock'n'roll album these days and Double Vision's self-titled debut is just that. Fans of music similar to Foreigner will find plenty to like here.
