DIRTY RIG

Dirty Rig keep up the raunch'n'roll with "Rock Did It."
Featuring the four songs included on the band's demo of last year, plus six new tunes, "Rock Did It" is raw and gritty Southern rock in the vein of Nashville Pussy and Jackyl with stoner rock's sludgy buzz and Alice Cooper's whiskey-soaked vocals.
Any concerns that the band's full-length wouldn't contain the kick ass energy of the demo were erased after my first listen through. As best I remember, the four songs that previously appeared on the demo sound pretty much the same and the six new songs are all equally strong rockers. My personal favorites are "Drunk Again" and "If You See Kaye" although I can honestly say there isn't a bad song on the CD. The humorously entitled "Pennysltucky" easily has the most crushing sound on the entire CD.
With only one intentional exception ("Cities, Scenes & Thieves," a decent ballad of sorts), "Rock Did It" is a unique, real rock'n'roll record with enough edge to scrape off and use on the band's next CD. What would you expect from a release with a promo sticker that proudly proclaims "Death to all things emo!"
Also included on some editions is a DVD featuring seven live videos, including two songs not featured on this CD.
Dirty Rig: Dave Ardolina - drums, backing vocals, signal flow; Buckshot - bass; Chas - guitars; Kory Clarke - kory clarke.

Judging from this 4-track demo, Dirty Rig plays some unapologetically gritty, raw and kick ass music that falls somewhere between 80s metal and stoner rock. Like bands such as Nashville Pussy and Jackyl, Dirty Rig rock it out with not only their raunchy guitars and double-entendre (or single-entendre) lyrics but with a greasy handful of attitude.
The demo starts off with the driving, irresistible "Suck It" and then folds into "Just a Star," which seems to suggest that women who flash the band will become stars (and that's probably not far from the truth judging from the most recent Motley Crue DVD). Track 3 is the title track from the band's forthcoming CD, "Rock Did It," a simple and effective anthem and track 4, "Throw Down" could almost have come off one of the early Twisted Sister CDs.
As always, I must state that it's difficult to tell much about any band from only a 4-track demo but, that being said, I really like the four tracks on this CD and am anxious to hear the band's full-length.
