DIES IRAE
"The Sin War" (Metal Blade; 2002)
Reviewed by Christopher J. Kelter
Dies Irae is a death metal super-group of sorts: Mauser and Doc from Polish death metal legends Vader have teamed up with Novy of Behemoth and Hiro of Sceptic to create a new death metal juggernaut in the making.
"The Sin War" is largely a mid-paced death metal affair and right off the bat that wins high praises from me. Dies Irae employ all the aggression and ferocity that death metal is known for with a high degree of technicality and a working knowledge of how to incorporate melody and energetic guitar solos to keep things fresh. Novy's vocals are a bit run-of-the-mill, but it's really a minor complaint.
In the end, there's not much I can say except that "The Sin War" is one of the few death metal CDs that I was able to enjoy from the get-go.
"The Sin War" was produced by Mauser, Wojtek, and Wieslawscy.
Dies Irae is Novy on vocals and bass, Mauser and Hiro on guitars, and Doc on drums.
