DESPITE EXILE

"Scarlet Reverie" (Self-released; 2011)

Reviewed by Jeff Rogers

If you like metalcore and deathcore and dig Italy (yes, you read that right, Italy!), then give these guys a try. This band uses that little boot-shaped country to kick the snot out any notion that Italy can't produce a metalcore band.

Fans of August Burns Red, Veil Of Maya, and Fell Silent will find another band to champion in the deathcore arena. This EP includes only six songs but, if it had any more, I'd need a week to decompress! This stuff is heavier than concrete! The guitars are melodic in parts and when they start crunching their way through a song you will feel it in your bones. The drums scatter the sound waves beyond comprehension and the gravelly vocals will frighten the devil himself.
