DESIRE BLACK

"Last Call for Decadence" (Excalibur Records; 2003)

Freedom of expression is the backbone of all music. That being said, as I sit here listening to "Last Call for Decadence" on my CD player, I can't believe what is coming out of the speakers. This one man band plays music that is part punk, part rock and part some shit I can't quite figure out. Sometimes the music is a little too harsh and and indefinable. Sometimes, it kicks solid ass. It's like Marilyn Manson met Nine Inch Nails in some alternate universe.

Desire Black is Jimmy Matheos and he plays all the instruments and does a remarkable job. I can't say I like everything here, but some of it is really good. Final diagnosis: Too weird for most, but just weird enough for others.
