DEGREE ABSOLUTE

"Degree Absolute" (Sensory Records; 2006)

Reviewed by Snidermann

When the band really shows their teeth on Degree Absolute's self-titled album, the music is very exciting and engrossing. However, not all the music here cooks. In fact, a large portion of this CD is sickly slow, heavily over produced and, well, milquetoast. In a word, it's boring.

It was very hard to hold my attention throughout this CD. It was almost as though I were listening to a movie soundtrack rather than a rock record. I felt like I was missing the boat as I listened to this CD and I could never get a grip on what the band was trying to accomplish.

When Degree Absolute is playing the harder and heavier stuff, I was hooked. When the music slowed down too much, however, it just about put me to sleep.
