CROSSBONE SKULLY

"Evil World Machine" (Better Noise Music; 2024)

Reviewed by Snidermann

Crossbone Skully and their recording "Evil World Machine" takes me back to the 1970s, when heavy guitar-based rock was the norm—Judas Priest, The Scorpions, AC/DC, Thin Lizzy and the like. Rock music was more fluid and less produced than it is now. That is not to say it was better or worse, it was just different.

Well, that is what Crossbone Skully sounds like to me and I like it. The band is fronted by Tommy Henriksen, who was bassist for Warlock (with Doro Pesch), The Alice Cooper band, The Hollywood Vampires and numerous bands throughout the years. Stripped down, old school rock with an attitude that, just like wine, gets better the more I listen to it. This, in my opinion, is what rock music should be: simple, straight forward, heavy chords and thundering bass and drums, combined to make one killer music experience.

Tommy Henriksen’s Crossbone Skully is a breath of fresh air to the hard rock music scene that came out of fucking nowhere and slammed me across the head. I have to admit I listened to this recording three times before I discovered it was Tommy Henriksen’s, much to my surprise. Good solid rock music is what Crossbone Skully is all about.
