COUNTERVAIL
"In the Event of an Unscheduled Landing" (Status Recordings; 2001)
Reviewed by Snidermann
Countervail's "In The Event Of An Unscheduled Landing" is nothing less than heavy metal music at its most primitive. The music moves like a freight train right to the center of your senses.
Most Rough Edge readers will identify immediately with the strangeness and sheer brilliance of this recording. This is metal aggression at its utmost. The vocals here are extremely dynamic but its the guitars that are plainly the driving force of this band; they simply kick ass all around.
The CD also provides some truly funky shit in its last tracks and it's more stuff that is simply not to be missed. If this band rocks live anything like this five-track CD does, this is one show that is not to be missed.
Countervail is: Seth Brown- drums; Mike Hartley - vocals; Christ Stauser - bass; Nate Stephens - guitar; Nick Stauser - guitar & samples.
Rating Guide:
A classic. This record will kick your ass.
Killer. Not a classic but it will rock your world.
So-so. You've heard better.
Pretty bad. Might make a nice coaster.
Self explanatory. Just the sight of the cover makes you wanna hurl.
