CENTENARY

"Death ... The Final Frontier" (CDN Records; 2021)

Reviewed by R. Scott Bolton

I'm not a huge fan of death metal but I do appreciate its nuances. Centenary play a raw, sandpaper-edged type of death metal that will chafe your skin and abrade your ears like steel wool. There's not a whole lot new and original here and you'd probably be pissed off it there was. When you want to listen to death metal, you want to listen to death metal, right?

What I really like are the horror movie sound effects and song titles that give the album a dark yet humorous depth.  I wouldn't even begin to pick my favorite tracks here, but my favorite titles are "Entangled in Entrails," "Liquefied Rot," "Malicious Symbiosis" and "Facial Dislocation." Kinda tells you a little of what you're in for, no?

So-so. You've heard better.

Pretty bad. Might make a nice coaster.

Self explanatory. Just the sight of the cover makes you wanna hurl.
