CAVO

"Sounds From the Hollow" EP (Eleven Seven; 2011)

Reviewed by Jeff Rogers

Cavo has five songs on this mini preview EP and they have a grunge influence. If you like Bush or Smile Empty Soul then you'll find a new fave via Cavo. They are from St. Louis, Missouri and they've been around since 2002 when they released the EP titled "A Space to Fill." From there they released another EP and then started work on their first disc. "Sounds From the Hollow" is their third full length disc.

Cavo has a tight sound and you can hear a more alternative sound than a grunge one. Their influences pull them towards the grunge sound. The first track, "Thick as Thieves," kicks off the EP with a solid shot to the head. The guitar has an alternative sound and there are a few solos and they are well played.

I'm hoping the first four songs (the fifth is an acoustic version of "Thick as Thieves") is a glimpse into the rest of the full-length disc because this EP rocks!

Cavo: Chris Hobbs - guitar, backing vocals; Chad La Roy – drums; Brian Smith - bass, backing vocals; Casey Walker - lead vocals.
