BROCK

"Brock" (Self-produced; 2006)

Reviewed by R. Scott Bolton

Judging from this seven track demo CD, Brock could benefit from more frequent visits to their local Starbucks. Solid musicianship and excellent production are no match for the band's downbeat style. Except for an occasional, surprisingly brisk lead guitar solo, "Brock" plays something like a Type O Negative album without the edge.

There's a lot that deserves respect here. As mentioned above, the musicianship is tight and the production above average for a self-produced CD. And the band knows how to write songs. All they need is just a little more energy to push them to the next level. Unfortunately, this CD, while certainly showcasing the band's strengths, also displays their shortcomings as well.
