BOTTOM
Reviewed by Christopher J. Kelter
Bottom's self-titled three-song demo from this New York City outfit shows a lot of promise. A fluid trio of super-heavy stoner rock songs are crafted by Sina, Nila, and Clementine who are at the top of their collective and crushing best with these deep toned tunes.
With guitars buzzing, bass booming, and the drums pounding Bottom have an overall deep killer sound - Bottom have found their own special niche in the stoner rock style.
Bottom draft a Corrosion Of Conformity type of sound on the opening track "25 Hawaiian" - the slow Southern groove is infectious. The super-bass of "Whipping Child" and the rapid-fire vocals are a cool mix'n'match style. The slower groove of "The Garden" stretches out a bass lick with a grunge-like vibe. Decent variety for a three-song demo!
A full-length CD should be available in December 1999.
The demo was produced by Greg Gordon. Although I doubt the demo was deliberately under-produced, the demo quality of the sound actually lends integrity to the band's approach.
Bottom is Sina on vocals and guitar, Nila on bass, and Clementine on drums.
