BORKNAGER

"Origin" (Century Media; 2006)

Reviewed by Christopher J. Kelter

Borknagar always wanted to further explore the organic sound of their material and with “Origin” the band has achieved its goals. Far removed from the orchestral black metal style, “Origin” is solid addition to the Borknagar canon.

Borknagar added guest musicians to more easily capture a natural approach via the use of violins, cellos, flutes, and recorders. By and large, “Origin” reveals Borknagar to be experts at exploiting the nuances of their material in ways that full-on electrified performances would not allow.

“Origin” was produced by Borknagar and co-produced by Borge Finstad.
