BOLT UPRIGHT

"Red Carpet Sindrome" (550 Music)

Reviewed by Snidermann

Bolt Upright, with their recording "Red Carpet Sindrome," is a collection of heavy metal rap music that is aggressive, hard-hitting and straight to the point. The band cooks with an intensity that is both electrifying and unpredictable. Unfortunately, when guitarist David Aguirre is not shredding the strings, the rap gets to be a little bit overwhelming. As I've said before on these pages, rap with no rage is useless.

There are things about this recording and band that are nothing short of brilliant. There are other aspects of this recording that are less than metal. This recording made me experience more than one spectrum of my musical tastes - everything from - "My god, this band shreds!" to the other end, of thick, melodic rap, "Yuck!"

When all is said and done, however, I really liked this band.

Bolt Upright is; Tory Tee, vocals; David Aguirre, guitar; Damian Valentine, bass; Heff Holter, drums; and DJ Jonny Love, turntables.
