BLUESTONE CO.

"Bluestone Co." (PID; 2006)

Reviewed by R. Scott Bolton

Bluestone Co. are the band that rose from the ashes of The Savoy Truffle and fans of that band will not be disappointed with this self-titled CD.

This seven-track release starts off with a bluesy rock instrumental that sets the stage for the rest of the recording. "Silver Horse" will immediately bring to mind the brilliant work of Stevie Ray Vaughn and fans of his style of hard-rocking blues will find themselves right at home here. The five non-instrumental tracks are sung by Texas guitar legend Chris Duarte, who also provides this Japanese band's CD with lyrics.

Comparisons to Stevie Ray Vaughn continue throughout the balance of the CD, with hints of legends like B.B. King and Buddy Guy popping in here and there.

On their website, Bluestone Co. proclaim that they are a "blues jam rock band that respects soul, blues, and rock'n roll music." They go on to say that they are "trying to surpass the bands that they admire most." That's one tall order but Bluestone Co. might just have the chops to pull it off.

Bluestone Co.: Toshihiro Sumitomo - Guitar; Yoshihiro Ogasahara - Bass; Taizo Takafuju - drums; Taro Takagi - Percussions.
