BEYOND FEAR
"Beyond Fear" (SPV/Sanctuary; 2006)
Reviewed by Snidermann
Tim "Ripper" Owens, of Judas Priest and Iced Earth fame, returns here with a new band and a new collection of music.
We only ask one thing here at Rough Edge: Please don't give us music that sucks. Beyond Fear certainly does that. The music on this self-titled CD is very well done and shows a wide range of musical expression - from slow melodic rock to thunderous metal -- mixed with above par songwriting.
Fans of Owens' work with both Priest and Iced Earth will find "Beyond Fear" to their liking. The music on this CD kept my interest and entertained me throughout and that is not an easy task. But it's not just pure ear candy; I spun this CD three or four times before it really began to grab me and I enjoyed that challenge, too.
Beyond Fear does all I ask from a band: entertained me. Clearly and simply, "Beyond Fear" is fun.
