BERIEDIR

"Liminal Spaces" (Rockshots Records; 2025)

Reviewed by R. Scott Bolton

Say what you will about Beriedir's "Liminal Spaces," but give the band credit for incorporating metal genres of all types in the tracks that comprise this surprising and eclectic album.

"Liminal Spaces" is ten tracks of blended metal music that infuses elements of classic metal, progressive metal, death metal and a whole bunch of other metals that combine to create a unique sound that seems to always catch you off guard. A song seems to be going one way and then suddenly twists another and yet it all manages to come together and it works. Mixing fast and slow(er) tempos, clean and growling vocals, as well as guitar riffs and tones, Beriedir creates a sound that skillfully holds your attention throughout its run length.

A couple of samples are "As Tight as the Phantoms Hold," a sweeping progressive piece with soaring vocals, demonic growls and rocking guitars ... until about two-thirds through, of course, when it becomes a raging monster of a tune and "Burnout," whose pace seems to change about six times but takes you on a journey you won't want to return from.

The album finishes up with the title track, a unique tune that seems to celebrate everything you've listened to prior.

Certainly an album for those who like something a little different, "Liminal Spaces" is a consistently entertaining listen throughout.
