BEASTÖ BLANCÖ

"Kinetica" (COP International; 2024)

Reviewed by Snidermann

When I heard that Alice Cooper's daughter was in a metal band a few years ago, of course I had to check it out. At first, it was more out of curiosity, but then I really liked it. The name of the band is Beastö Blancö and the new recording is called "Kinetica."

I have to say I like this recording more than I liked the last one and I really liked the last one. Who woulda thunk that Alice Cooper’s daughter could sing (duh, genetics!). Calico Cooper and Chuck Garric share the vocals here and they do it very well. Actually, Chuck Garric was in the Alice Cooper band from 2003 to 2005 and that was when he met Calico, who played the demented nurse in Alice's show.

The songwriting and musical presentation on "Kinetica" is very tight and it shows with each and every song here. Calico's voice adds a certain vulnerability to the music that is very appealing. This music is simply powerful, very listenable, slightly twisted and very fun. I can't wait to see this very interesting and talented band live!

"We Are Beastö Blancö" (Rat Pak Records; 2019)

Reviewed by Snidermann

Calico Cooper, daughter of rock and metal icon Alice Cooper, has been in the rock band Beastö Blancö since 2013. Holy shit! How come we here at RoughEdge.com did not know that. Anyway, R. Scott Bolton sent me a link recently for a video from the band and it was directed by Calico Cooper. I of course jumped at the chance and dug up some of their music. I entered a world I thought I knew, but actually did not.

Let me back up a bit. Since 1997, Calico has toured with Alice playing the sadistic nurse on stage, the same job her mother, Sheryl, did for years. While on tour with Alice she met Chuck Garric. In 2012, Garric (who had played with Dio and Alice Cooper) and Chris Latham formed Beastö Blancö. In 2013, Calico joined the band.

This recording is called "We Are Beastö Blancö" and what I experienced was a total immersion into the very cool world of Beastö Blancö. The music is hard and extremely fun to listen to. It has a quality that every metal fan around the world will appreciate. I know I did.

From start to finish, Beastö Blancö rocks like a bitch from start to finish.
