ATOMIC ROOSTER

"Space Cowboy" (Marble Arch; 1991)

Reviewed by Snidermann

The band Atomic Rooster (what a great fucking name, right?) has been around, on and off, since the 60s and, frankly, I have been having a hard time trying to figure their history out online and also just what this band is just about. That being said, what I do know is that this music is great.

The name of the recording is "Space Cowboy," and this is good, down-to-earth rock music. It's a little Allman Brothers, a little early Genesis, some Dr. Hook, a smattering of The Grateful Dead and with more than a bit of Frank Zappa. An interesting combo. They deliver a musical product that is fun and easy to listen to and frankly hard to describe (which happens to be my job!)

All I can say is go to YouTube and listen for yourself. This shit is way weird, lots of fun, musically bold and whimsical at the same time. As you read this review, you can see I am having a hard time putting Atomic Rooster into a category. So, after a bunch of spins, I have decided not to put Atomic Rooster into any category. I will just say that this music kicks ass. If you want a better description than that, go out and listen to it!

Pretty bad. Might make a nice coaster.

Self explanatory. Just the sight of the cover makes you wanna hurl.
