"Among the Lost" (Last Scream; 2009)

Reviewed by R. Scott Bolton

"Among the Lost" is an okay CD with pretty impressive music that falls into the thrash/progressive genre, if such a genre exists. It's got driving rhythms and blistering guitars, but there's a slightly melodic sound there as well.

When it comes to vocal style, however, Apeiron sounds pretty much like every other band out there, which is to say that the songs don't really stand out. In fact, some of the songs seem indistinguishable from others, at least at first listen, and don't generate any real listen for repeat listens.

This is the kind of CD I might pick up in a month or two to give it another listen ... and I might like it more at that point than I do now. Again, it isn't a bad album; I never hit the Stop or Fast Forward buttons. It just never really grabbed me and held my attention as I would have preferred.
