ANCIENT SPELL
"Forever in Hell" (Minotauro; 2015)
Reviewed by R. Scott Bolton
Ancient Spell's "Forever in Hell," is a doom metal album of a different breed. It's got the thick, Sabbath-y riffs, the deliberate pace, and the haunting solos that you'd expect. The surprise here is vocalist Donnie Marhefka, who shakes things up a bit with his gravelly growls. At times, it's like a death metal vocalist is fronting a doom band and the combination sets Ancient Spell apart.
I also really like the production on this CD. The music sounds big and blasts out of your stereo like a hurricane.
So, if you're in that doom-y mood, try Ancient Spell's "Forever in Hell."
Ancient Spell: Jeff Clark - bass; Conrad Viz - guitar; Donnie Marhefka - vocals; Rob Thompson - drums.
