ALLEN / LANDE

"The Showdown" (Frontiers; 2011)

Reviewed by Snidermann

Melodic rock, symphonic metal, progressive rock, hard rock or whatever the hell you want to call it, that's what Allan/Lande has in spades.

Right from the start, "The Showdown" has that fresh feel, like Queensryche with a bit Katagory V added in. What comes out of your speakers is a fun, highly structured musical ride that is both entertaining and a bit daunting at the same time. Daunting? Why daunting? Because the more I listen to it, the less I understand it. Each spin gives me a firmer grasp on the release, but then, like a spider's web, it is gone. That being said, I must say I am having a good time trying to figure it out. I may not understand it, but I do know that I do like it.

"The Showdown" is music bigger-than-life fun and high up there in the progressive scene.
