AIRFORCE

"Acts of Madness" (Roar/Rock of Angels; 2025)

Reviewed by R. Scott Bolton

Sometimes you just want to go back to the classic sound. Hard rock guitars, irresistible hooks, bold vocals, a pulsating bass and driving drums. And that's what you get with "Acts of Madness," one of the purest hard rock albums of the year.

From the opening track, Among the Shadows," Airforce lays down a solid recording from beginning to end, with songs that rock like Judas Priest crossed with Iron Maiden crossed with Saxon ... well, you get the idea. It's a classic sound and, "Acts of Madness" delivers it perfectly.

My favorite tracks were the head-bang inducing "Heroes," the galloping "The Fury" and the aforementioned "Among the Shadows," which sets the stage for the entire album and tells you exactly what you're in for.

My only complaint is that track #4, "Cursed Moon," is kinda ruined with an annoying vocal filter. I don't know why the band chose to record the vocals this way but it's distracting and diminishes an otherwise fine track.

But that's really it. The bottom line is that "Acts of Madness" is a fun album to listen to, throwing back to the legendary days of classic metal and yet delivering something that's undeniably Airforce as well. I'll dig this one out often when I'm in the mood for some truly solid rock'n'roll.
