ABIGAIL'S AFFAIR
"Shattered" (Wormholedeath; 2021)
Reviewed by R. Scott Bolton
What sets Abigail's Affair apart from other metalcore bands is their emotional impact. You can feel it in each track on their album, "Shattered." And it's not so much that the emotions are there. I mean, a lot of metalcore albums are about rage and fury. "Shattered" certainly has its share of those. But, as you listen to these brutal, crushing tracks with their pummeling guitars and pulverizing rhythms, there are other emotions that push through as well, emotions like love and loss and wasted desire.
Of course, If you're just looking for something to kick your ass, then "Shattered" will do it. But there's more to the album and, as you listen, you'll discover it for yourself. It seeps through the cascading walls of sound and makes "Shattered" more than just your average metalcore album.
Abigail's Affair: Jag Valdez - Lead Guitar/Vocals; Ian Olague - Drums; Adan Ostos - Lead Guitar; Frank Villarreal - Bass; Luis J. Olvera - Rhythm Guitar/Backup Vocals.
