ABANDON ALIEN
"Disturbing the Neighbors" (Sliptrick Records; 2025)
Reviewed by R. Scott Bolton
"Disturbing the Neighbors" is, for the most part, a grungy chunk of rock'n'roll, featuring sludgy guitars, slow pacing and melancholy vocals. It's the kind of rock'n'roll that fans of Nirvana and Pearl Jam will probably instantly find to their liking.
Abandon Alien aren't just clones of those bands, however. They add their own personalities to the mix with strong songwriting, a couple of well-placed tracks that separate themselves from the others, and by twisting their genre enough--while maybe not a full 180 degrees--to give them a unique sound.
My favorite tracks were the pulsating "Better You," the atmospheric and eerie "Another Scar," the surprisingly bright "Control," and the bulldozer of a closer, "Blissful Armageddon."
If you're not a fan of grunge, my hunch is that you won't like much of anything on "Disturbing the Neighbors." However, if that genre intrigues you, I believe you'll enjoy what Abandon Alien does here.
Abandon Alien: Dan Bollman - Guitar/Vocals; Kim Fontes - Bass; Chris Medrano - Drums.
